2002 Cadillac DeVille Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Start replacement of the right Exhaust Manifold by first adjusting the Steering Column to lock position to safeguard the coil assembly and steering wheels into straight alignment. Secure the Steering Column through the use of Steering Column lock pin (J 42640). Start by supporting the vehicle and disconnect the heated Oxygen Sensor from the sensor pigtail. To commence the replacement work first remove the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe then take off the 2 nuts which connect the secondary air tube to the Exhaust Manifold. Remove the secondary air tube with its gasket which cannot be revived for later usage. Remove first the post heated Oxygen Sensor wiring harness retainer from the power steering gear heat shield and then unfasten two bolts to detach and remove the heat shield. To extract the vehicle speed sensor heat shield firstly unscrew the rear backward nut before drifting the forward nut to remove the heat shield from the transaxle. To access the intermediate shaft of the steering gear disconnect the real-time dampening sensor links from lower control arms followed by removal of the intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Then separate the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Unbolt the nut which joins the right Engine Mount bracket to the right Engine Mount and the nut connecting the left transaxle mount to the left transaxle mount bracket. A tall screw jack supports the engine frame from behind while you remove its body bolts in the rearward direction followed by lowering the jack approximately 4 cm (1.5 inches). First remove the heated Oxygen Sensor and after that the right Exhaust Manifold retaining bolts to extract the right Exhaust Manifold with its gasket which needs replacement. Directly before installing a new Exhaust Manifold Gasket on the cylinder head studs you must clean and inspect the right Exhaust Manifold then fit the right Exhaust Manifold to the correct cylinder head position. Fasten the right Exhaust Manifold nuts with a torque of 25 nm until they reach 18 ft. Lbs. Install the heated Oxygen Sensor onto its place while mounting the engine cradle using the 4 rearward engine frame-to-body bolts and torquing them to 191 nm (141 ft. Lbs.). Install the left transaxle nut to its bracket first then tighten it to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.) before proceeding to install and torque the right engine nut to the right Engine Mount bracket with 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.) torque value. Familiarize the intermediate shaft before tightening the pinch bolt to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Insert the intermediate shaft into the steering gear before bolting and fastening the items. First the real-time dampening sensor links need to be attached to lower control arms, then the vehicle speed sensor heat shield must be placed onto transaxle studs before installing retaining nuts (2, 3) while tightening them to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The power steering gear heat shield requires placement on its designated gear area before installation of its two bolts at 9 nm torque value (79 inch lbs.). After connecting the heated Oxygen Sensor wiring harness retainer to the heat shield the technician must install a new gasket on the secondary air tube before attaching 2 nuts to the Exhaust Manifold and tightening them to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). To complete the installation chain together the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe and lower the vehicle to its normal position followed by removing the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) before reattaching the heated Oxygen Sensor at the sensor pigtail.
