Exhaust Manifold, Driver Side

The first step to replace a left Exhaust Manifold involves removing two nuts which secure the air tube to the Exhaust Manifold followed by taking out the Engine Mount alongside the bracket. Lift the vehicle with support and uninstall the two bolts on the manifold outlet flange. Installing the replacement Exhaust Manifold starts with removing the heated Oxygen Sensor according to the bank 2-4.6 l procedures and moving on to uninstall the manifold bolts. Remove the Exhaust Manifold while discarding its gasket and then clean and inspect the Exhaust Manifold surface. Secure the installation by inserting the outlet pipe partly through the exhaust crossover pipe while placing the manifold into position. Fix a fresh gasket to the manifold before fastening it with two bolts. Proceed to install the rest of the Exhaust Manifold bolts then tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs. Torque range). Attach the two bolts at the manifold outlet flange according to a torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install the Oxygen Sensor according to the heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) replacement procedure bank 2-4.6 l followed by Engine Mount and bracket installation. Lower the vehicle before placing a new gasket onto the air tube then attach the two nuts that link the air tube to the Exhaust Manifold and tighten them to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.).

Remove the rear exhaust manifold pipe, followed by the 2 nuts attaching the secondary AIR tube to the exhaust manifold.

Place the retainer and a NEW front exhaust manifold pipe seal over the left exhaust manifold.

Install the heated oxygen sensor.

Remove the right side cylinder head to the transaxle brace, followed by the exhaust manifold nuts.

Install the heated oxygen sensor and raise the engine cradle into position.

Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt and disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear, supporting the rear of the engine frame with a tall screw jack.

Install the nut securing the left transaxle mount to the left transaxle mount bracket, tightening it to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).

Lower the vehicle, install a new gasket to the AIR tube, and finally, attach the two nuts to the exhaust manifold, tightening them to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).

Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear and tighten the pinch bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).

Detach the 2 nuts that secure the secondary AIR tube to the exhaust manifold and remove the secondary AIR tube along with the gasket, which should not be reused.
