2001 Cadillac Eldorado Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Begin right Exhaust Manifold replacement by disconnecting the heated Oxygen Sensor at the sensor pigtail while the vehicle wheels should face straight forward and the steering column needs to be locked to avoid damage to the coil assembly. Begin by taking the key out to secure the steering column lock and after that elevate and stabilize the vehicle. First remove the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe followed by the two nuts holding the secondary air tube to the Exhaust Manifold. Then remove the secondary air tube with its gasket which cannot be reused again for this operation. The power steering gear heat shield can be detached by removing its three securing bolts so the heat shield can be removed from the engine frame. Disassembly of the vehicle speed sensor heat shield begins by unfastening the rearward nut followed by the forward nut before proceeding to disconnect electronic suspension position sensor links at the Control Arm. Avert the intermediate shaft pinch bolt and detach the intermediate shaft from the steering gear while using a tall screw jack to stabilize the engine frame rear. Secure a tall screw jack to support the rear of the engine frame before eliminating the four engine frame-to-body bolts situated towards the rear. Initially remove the heated Oxygen Sensor followed by removing both right Exhaust Manifold retaining bolts and Exhaust Manifold along with its gasket that should be discarded. Before adding the right Exhaust Manifold check its condition then proceed with an inspection. The replacement process requires installing a new Exhaust Manifold Gasket onto the cylinder head studs before mounting and tightening the right Exhaust Manifold nuts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Position the heated Oxygen Sensor before placing the engine cradle into its correct position and bolt in place the four rearward engine frame-to-body fixtures which need a torque of 191 nm (141 ft. Lbs.). Uninstall the screw jack after checking that the intermediate shaft stays in position because loss of steering control happens when the pinch bolt goes in before shaft seating. Use the intermediate shaft to attach it to the steering gear before torquing the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). If the vehicle has the electronic suspension position sensors, reinstall their links to lower control arms before putting the vehicle speed sensor heat shield over transaxle studs and tightening retaining nuts (2,3) to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs. Torque). Secure the power steering gear heat shield against the engine frame using three bolts which should be tightened to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). You should fit a new gasket on the secondary air tube before connecting the Exhaust Manifold nuts with a torque of 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Finish by wrapping up with the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe then reduce the vehicle height and connect the heated Oxygen Sensor through its sensor pigtail.
