2002 Cadillac Eldorado Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2002 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Disconnection of the heated Oxygen Sensor from its sensor pigtail is the first step before right Exhaust Manifold replacement. Steer the vehicle with its wheels in line while locking the steering column by removing the ignition key. Set the vehicle on supports before unfastening the Exhaust Manifold pipe that attaches to the rear section. Two nuts must be removed from the secondary air tube Exhaust Manifold connection, allowing for secondary air tube removal alongside its gasket which cannot be used again. Proceed by removing the 3 bolts that maintain the power steering gear heat shield and extract the heat shield from the engine frame. Begin by unscrewing the rearward nut while unloosening the forward nut of the vehicle speed sensor heat shield before removing it from the transaxle. Disconnect the electronic suspension sensor links from lower Control Arm attachments if this equipment exists. Use a screw jack to support the engine frame rear while removing the 4 rearward engine frame-to-body bolts. After disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the steering gear with the removal of the pinch bolt, move the engine frame rearward. While lowering the screw jack to 4 cm (1.5 in) you should check if the heated Oxygen Sensor requires removal. Start by taking out the right Exhaust Manifold retaining bolts before extracting the right Exhaust Manifold along with its gasket. Reuse the gasket is not permitted. The right Exhaust Manifold requires cleaning before installing an engine gasket on the Cylinder Head studs and placing the right Exhaust Manifold into position on the right Cylinder Head. Fasten the right Exhaust Manifold nuts before tightening them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and then install the heated Oxygen Sensor. Install the 4 rearward engine frame-to-body bolts onto their positions while tightening them to 98 nm (72 ft. Lbs.). Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear after removing the screw jack then install the pinch bolt before tightening it to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Position the vehicle speed sensor heat shield to its transaxle studs and tighten retaining nuts (2,3) to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The power steering gear heat shield needs placement on the engine frame before tightening the 3 bolts to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). The Exhaust Manifold requires a new gasket on its secondary air tube before installing its two nuts and torquing them to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Before ending your work span, reinstall the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe and lower the vehicle before reconnecting the heated Oxygen Sensor at its pigtail.
