Start the right Camshaft replacement process by removing both the right Camshaft cover together with the Camshaft Position Sensor. Use Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) to position the Crankshaft pointer at tdc of #1 cylinder compression stroke while keeping the Camshaft sprocket drive pins in the highest position of rotation. Apply the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the camshafts before using an open wrench on their hex cast to prevent their rotation while you remove the Camshaft sprocket bolts. Use secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture (J 44213) to fasten ahead of the front rail of the cylinder head while withdrawing the Camshaft sprocket bolts. Open the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe access plug before loosening the shoe bolt to two full turns. The intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets need to be fitted onto secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture pins (J 44213) while reducing Camshaft bearing cap bolt tightness until all valve spring pressure dissipates. Remove the Camshaft bearing caps before you take away the camshafts then perform the Camshaft follower removal. Clean up the camshafts while inspecting them before adding liberally gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent lubricant to the roller pivot pocket and valve slot locations of the Camshaft followers. Place the Camshaft followers across valve tips while aligning them with stationary hydraulic lash adjusters. Clean the Camshaft carrier components before applying lubricating oil to both the Camshaft carrier parts along with the Camshaft journal and Camshaft lobe surfaces. Install the Camshaft into the Camshaft carriers so its sprocket drive pins face the top position. Before installation of the bearing caps check the identification marks and apply lubricant on the caps before assembling them per the identification marks. Follow the sequence order to install Camshaft bearing cap bolts while first tightening them by hand until they reach full seating and then tighten them to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) with an additional 30 degrees of torque using torque angle/meter (J 36660-A). Install the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) while maintaining proper Camshaft sprocket engagement before reinstalling it. Use secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture (J 44213) to move each intake and exhaust Camshaft sprocket from holding pin position onto the camshafts before torquing the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and access plug to 4.5 nm (40 inch lbs.). Install the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs. Using an open wrench to stop rotation while holding the Camshaft sprockets at the camshafts after carefully removing the Secondary Drive Timing Chain/Sprocket Holding Fixture (J 44213). Check the sprocket alignment before removing the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) and reinstall the Camshaft Position Sensor while installing the right Camshaft cover.
