- Q: How to set the camshaft timing after the camshaft drive system has been disturbed on 2002 Cadillac Eldorado?A: The Camshaft timing requires setting after any Camshaft drive system disturbance through the complete removal of left Camshaft cover, right Camshaft cover, engine front cover, three chain tensioners, and Oil Pump. Installation of primary and secondary chain guides should happen if they were taken off previously. Use Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) to rotate the Crankshaft until its sprocket drive key reaches approximately the 1 o'clock mark. Position the Crankshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets to the primary drive chain by placing their timing marks close to each other. Use the Crankshaft key to enter the sprocket through its slot but maintain all timing marks in their proper alignment by turning the Crankshaft with Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946). Secure the Camshaft intermediate sprocket bolt with a torque of 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). The primary Camshaft drive chain tensioner must be either installed or its tensioner shoe released as you tighten the tensioner bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Follow this step by locking the Crankshaft in position with the flywheel holder (J 44214) after aligning the timing marks vertically. Route this secondary drive chain past the intermediate shaft's inner row teeth and position the re Camshaft sprocket that contains the Camshaft position sensor. Position the exhaust Camshaft sprocket to the chain allowing the Camshaft drive pin to snap into the notch marked le and verify the lower chain section exhibits no slack. Mount the intake Camshaft sprocket by having the l1-marked sprocket notch reach the drive pin while maintaining the sprocket directly normal to the Cylinder Head surface. Mount the exhaust and intake Camshaft sprocket retainer bolts without tightening them fully. After installing the tensioner for the secondary Camshaft drive chain you should either release the tension from its shoe or deploy the tensioning apparatus before securing the Camshaft sprocket bolts at 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.) and the tensioner bolts at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Perform the same procedure for right side camshafts while making sure all the timing marks stay correctly aligned before installing the Oil Pump and engine front cover and right and left Camshaft covers.
