• Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2002 Cadillac Eldorado?

  A: In order to replace the left secondary camshaft drive chain, initially remove the right secondary camshaft drive chain; this is followed by the removal of the left secondary chain drive tensioner as well as the left camshaft cover. Make sure to align both camshaft sprocket drive pins at the top part of the rotation. The camshaft holding tool has to be handled carefully. Place the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the camshafts, and apply an open end wrench on the hex cast in the camshaft to prevent the revolving while removing the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt. Remove the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt, slide the left intake camshaft sprocket off the camshaft, then remove the left secondary camshaft drive off the teeth of the camshaft sprocket. Remove the left secondary camshaft drive chain from the teeth of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft and remove it from the engine. For installation, slide the left second chain secondary camshaft drive chain down through the left Cylinder Head, and position onto the left exhaust camshaft sprocket, and run around the inner row of teeth on the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket. Mount the left intake camshaft sprocket into the left secondary camshaft drive chain and onto the camshaft so the camshaft sprocket notch marked l1 will line up with the intake camshaft pin. Use the open end wrench to avoid rotation while tightening the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44212), and install the left camshaft cover, the left secondary drive chain tensioner, and the right secondary camshaft drive chain.
