2001 Cadillac Eldorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Firstly, remove the right secondary camshaft drive chain tensioner, the Camshaft Position Sensor, and the left camshaft cover to replace the right one. Both camshaft sprocket drive pins should be at the top of rotation at this point before installing the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the camshafts. Then disconnect the mechanics wire supporting the right secondary camshaft drive chain shoe. Then, remove the engine front cover bolt. Then use an open-end wrench on the hex cast into the camshaft to avoid rotations while removing the right exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt. Slide off the right exhaust camshaft sprocket from the camshaft, then remove the right secondary camshaft drive chain from the teeth of the camshaft sprocket then lift out of the camera intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth and removed from the engine. To install, slide the right secondary camshaft drive chain down through the right cylinder head on to the right intake camshaft sprocket, and route it around the outer row of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Mount the correct crank sprocket onto the right secondary camshaft drive chain and onto the camshaft with the sprocket notch in unit re aligning with the exhaust camshaft pin. Recheck with the open end wrench to supply non-rotating pressure as you attach the bolt of the camshaft sprocket, 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Close with the correct secondary camshaft drive chain tensioner, remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44212), followed by the right camshaft cover and the Camshaft Position Sensor.
