• Q: How to replace the secondary camshaft timing chain on 2000 Cadillac Eldorado?

  A: In order to replace the Timing Chain, take apart the engine front cover first. Make sure the timing marks align and then take out the right Timing Chain Tensioner bolts while allowing the tensioner to expand as you pull it out. Repeat the same process for the left Timing Chain Tensioner. Next, pull off the Camshaft covers and Camshaft Position Sensor. Loosen off the Camshaft sprocket retaining bolts from all four camshafts using an open wrench on the hex cast located at the front of each Camshaft to keep the engine from turning. Free the right Timing Chain from the teeth of the sprockets by pushing it to the rear and slide the Camshaft sprockets outward to allow the right chain to drop into the front cover area, remove it from the bottom of the engine block. Repeat this for the left Timing Chain as well. For installation, install in the sequence of setting Camshaft timing, the engine front cover, the Camshaft Position Sensor, and Camshaft covers.
