- Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2000 Cadillac Eldorado?A: The required tools for Camshaft replacement include j 36660-a (Torque Angle/Meter) j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) and j 44213 (Secondary Drive Timing Chain/Sprocket Holding Fixture). The work requires three specific tools including the j 36660-a torque angle/meter together with j 44212 Camshaft holding tool and j 44213 secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture. Start by rotating the engine to tdc position through removal of suitable cam covers. Place the j 44212 around the camshafts then unscrew the Camshaft sprocket bolts. The technician will connect the j 44213 to the cylinder head's front rail followed by removing the upper bolt access plug from the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide. Next slide the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets onto the pins of j 44213 while already loosening the upper bolt of the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide by two turns. Follow this sequence when releasing valve pressure: loosen Camshaft bearing cap bolts, remove the j 44212 from camshafts and bearing caps with bearing caps along with the camshafts and Camshaft followers. Apply gm p/n 12345001 lubricant equivalent to the roller pivot pocket along with the valve slot areas of Camshaft followers prior to cleaning and inspecting the camshafts. Place the Camshaft followers on the valve tip and shla with the rounded head facing the shla. The clean Camshaft carriers should receive gm p/n 12345001 lubricant or equivalent to coat both the Camshaft carriers and lobes and Camshaft journals. Start by positioning the Camshaft into the carriers so sprocket drive pins rest at carrier top positions while lobes maintain an even position and markings on Camshaft bearing caps show proper orientation. Install the Camshaft bearing caps by following the identification marks and use a j 36660-a to torque all bolts to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) and another 30 degrees before aligning the camshafts. Reinstall the j 44212 to engage its alignment pins properly. Reinstall the j 44212 over the camshafts before sliding their sprockets off the j 44213 while tightening the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide upper bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and reinstalling the access plug to 4.5 nm (39 inch lbs.). While maintaining the Camshaft sprockets against the camshafts remove the j 44213 and tightener the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). After verifying sprocket alignment the technician should use the j 44212 to remove camshafts before placing the right cam cover back into position.
