    A: The first step to replace the engine front cover requires removal of the drive belt tensioner followed by removal of the drive belt idler pulley bolt and the drive belt idler pulley. Start by removing the crankshaft balancer while you unscrew the front cover bolts followed by the removal of the front cover with its gasket. Throw out the old gasket only if you find damage. Position the front cover gasket over dowel pins of the crankcase before placing the front cover in its final position. Seal the split line with GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent sealant. Install the front cover retaining bolts, tightening them in the specified sequence to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)Reinstall the crankshaft balancer after tightening the front cover retaining bolts according to specification. After that, install the drive belt idler pulley and its bolt, tightening it to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)The process ends by reinstalling the drive belt tensioner.
