• Q: How to service and repair the right valve stem oil seal and valve spring on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?

  A: The first step in fixing the right valve guide seal and valve spring begins with removing the right camshafts followed by positioning the vehicle on jack stands. First take the engine Oil Pan brace off its position then remove the torque converter cover. Fit the flywheel holder (J 44214) part next and let the vehicle restore to ground position. Place the valve spring compressor base plate over the Spark Plug hole of the working cylinder and take out the Spark Plug from that cylinder. Fill the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313) into the Spark Plug hole while keeping constant air pressure equalizes valve pressure. Direct the swivel part of the valve spring compressor j 44211 over the selected valve bolt before tightening the swivel nut just enough for easy extraction of valve locks. When servicing the valve spring retainer operate the valve spring compressor (J 44211) and a magnet to unlock the valve. Make the valve spring compressor swivel nut loose. Pull the arm away from the valve spring retainer. To access the old valve guide seal, insert the valve stem seal remover & installer (J 38820) into the valve stem and turn-pull the tool to uninstall the aged component. Clean engine oil must touch the valve stem before installing the new seal. Also coat the valve spring measurement. Insert the seal protector onto the valve stem first before you can install the new valve guide seal using valve stem seal remover & installer (J 38820) and push-twist motion. Place the valve spring retainer back in place and spring back on top before tightening the valve spring compressor (J 44211) swivel nut enough for adjustments of valve locks. Install the valve keeper from j 43059 on valve positions before unhinging the j 44211 valve spring compressor for tool removal. Perform this procedure for all valves being repaired then release air pressure from the cylinder and discard the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313). Insert the Spark Plug into the compressor base plate socket of j 44211. After you apply this process to all required cylinders replace the proper right camshafts. Use the hoist to lift the vehicle and then detach the flywheel holder part j 44214 before fitting the torque converter cover. Complete the installation by placing the Oil Pan to transaxle brace then secure all bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) tension and lower the vehicle.
