• Q: How to replace the front Door Latch Assembly on 2002 Cadillac Eldorado?

  A: Start by taking off door trim panel and then water deflector and finally the window when changing the front door latch. Use a tool to disconnect the retainer which connects the key cylinder rods to the outside handle rods and followed by removal of these rods from the lock. The lock receives support from three fasteners that need removal before disconnecting the electrical connections from the lock and the Window Motor and module. The door module can be taken out after removing the nuts and bolt. Install the lock module by positioning it on the door through the hanging process on the studs followed by the manual starting of the nuts and bolt. Start by torquing the lock fasteners to the door while pulling the door module assembly backward which will prevent cross threading or stripping. Squeeze the lock assembly firmly in place before torquing the fasteners one by one to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Fasten the door module using the provided nuts and bolt by tightening them to 6 n.m (53 lb in). Attach electrical connectors before putting on the exterior handle as well as lock rods. The last procedure involves repositioning both window and water deflector and trim panel.
