2002 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and Valve Stem Oil Seal on 2002 Cadillac Seville?
A: Begin the valve guide seal service by taking out the right camshafts along with raising the entire vehicle. Start by removing the brace which connects the engine Oil Pan to the transaxle case and afterwards take off the torque converter cover. First install the flywheel holder (J44214) then lower the vehicle. The Spark Plug recess area requires cleaning ahead of time because contamination must be avoided when removing the Spark Plug. After removing the Spark Plug from the cylinder you work on position the base plate of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J44211) onto the Spark Plug hole. The Spark Plug port adapter (J39313) needs to enter the Spark Plug hole while keeping valve closure through constant air pressure. Secure the arm and swivel nut of the j44211 on-vehicle valve spring compressor to the matching valve stud while only applying sufficient swivel nut pressure to reach valve locks. The valve spring compressor's magnet removes valve locks before you loosen the swivel nut to swing away the arm and take out the valve spring retainer and valve spring. Use the j33820 valve stem seal remover and installer to both grip and remove valve stem seals. Apply clean engine oil to the valve stem and new seal inner diameter before using the valve stem seal remover and installer (J33820) for installation. After reinstalling the valve spring retainer and spring maintain your position with the valve spring compressor arm to tighten the swivel nut until you can reach the valve locks. Use the valve retainer remover/installer (J43059) to position valve locks before removing the swivel nut and arm of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J44211). After servicing additional valves follow the same steps by removing air pressure before taking off the Spark Plug port adapter (J39313) from the Spark Plug hole. Replace the base plate of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J44211) with the Spark Plug. Repeat the same cylinder servicing steps on any remaining cylinders before installing both right camshafts, lifting the car once more and removing the flywheel holder (J44214). After installation of the torque converter cover you should secure the Oil Pan to transaxle brace by torqueing bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) before lowering the vehicle.
