2002 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: First, recover the refrigerant before beginning condenser replacement work. The technician should disconnect the following electrical connections: the air intake duct sensor connector from shield (3.8) and the air intake duct sensor and mass airflow sensor connectors from shield (5.7). First disconnect the air intake ducts (3.8) and (5.7) before removing the radiator support component. Raise and support the vehicle. The a/c compressor hose assembly nut must be removed from the condenser where you also need to discard the o-ring. Move to the next step by unbolting and removing the a/c evaporator tube from the condenser while disposing of its o-ring. Remove the radiator air upper baffle from the condenser and then extract the condenser itself from the radiator. To install the condenser position it on the radiator before installing a new o-ring and the radiator air upper baffle to the condenser attachment point. Fasten the a/c evaporator tube bolt into the condenser position using 16 n.m (12 lb ft) torque. You should install a new o-ring afterward. Tighten the a/c compressor hose assembly nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft) when connecting it to the condenser. Lower the vehicle while you install the radiator support. As part of the 3.8l engine repair, install the air intake duct while the 5.7l engine requires installation of the air intake duct. Secure the intake Air Temperature Sensor connector to the air intake duct (5.7) and the mass airflow sensor connectors to the air intake duct (5.7) for vehicles with 5.7l engines. Vehicles with 3.8l engines should use the intake Air Temperature Sensor connector with the air intake duct (3.8). Before closing the system it's essential to perform a leak test on component fittings using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
