2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in an A/C system on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Refrigerant recovery needs to occur before installing a new condenser. Start by removing the hood latch support before unscrewing the compressor hose assembly's retaining nut from the condenser then detach the hose assembly. First discard the o-ring seal before removing the evaporator tube from the condenser. The installation process begins by removing both the Radiator air upper seal along with the three bolts used to secure the condenser to the Radiator. Remove the condenser tabs from their clips on the Radiator. The installation sequence starts by securing the condenser onto the Radiator until tabs lock into position in clips and ending with tightening three condenser bolts to 4 n.m (36 lb in). Start by attachment of the Radiator air upper seal to the Radiator flange then place the evaporator tube onto the condenser. Fitting the condenser end of the compressor hose assembly requires a replacement o-ring seal before you connect it to the condenser using a fitting nut which needs tightening to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Proceed with these steps: install the hood latch support and evacuate and recharge the a/c system before applying the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) for fitting leak checks.
