2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: The replacement process for the condenser requires refrigerant recovery as the first step. Start by removing the hood latch support and continuing with the compressor hose assembly from the condenser followed by the evaporator tube from the condenser. Start by removing the Radiator air upper seal from the Radiator then uninstall the three condenser to Radiator bolts. The condenser tabs need to be raised from their mounted position on the Radiator clips. The installation process begins by placing the condenser onto the Radiator so tabs fit completely into their clips before tightening the three condenser to Radiator bolts to a torque of 4 n.m (36 lb in). First install the Radiator air upper seal onto the Radiator flange then attach the evaporator tube to the condenser before fitting the compressor hose assembly to the condenser. Reinsert the hood latch support then conduct an a/c system leak test with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) after evacuating and recharging the system.
