• Q: How to replace the coolant reservoir on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?

  A: To change the surge tank, raise and support the vehicle, drain the cooling system, and drop the car. Remove the low coolant sensor electrical connector and take the low coolant sensor electrical harness away from the retainer. Dismount the surge tank outlet hose clasp (# J 38185) from the surge tank and separate the surge tank outlet hose from the surge tank . Next, use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to relocate the engine vent hose clamp from the surge tank and remove the engine vent hose from the surge tank. Once more, apply the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to move the radiator vent hose clamp from the surge tank and remove the radiator vent hose from the surge tank. Remove the mounting bolt of radiator surge tank, followed by the surge tank. For installation, the first step shall be to install the surge tank and the surge tank mounting bolt and fasten it to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). The radiator vent hose should be installed into the surge tank, and then the hose clamp can be moved to the surge tank using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Mount the engine vent hose on to the surge tank and reposition the engine vent hose clamp to the surge tank using the hose clamp pliers (J38185). Install the surge tank outlet hose to the surge tank then and using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) reposition surge tank outlet hose clamp to the surge tank. Finally attach the low coolant sensor electrical connector to the retainer, low coolant electrical connector and fill the cooling system from the radiator surge tank.
