2002 Chevrolet Corvette Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2002 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Beginning the Evaporator core replacement task requires several necessary tools that include the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Take off the hvac module before unhooking the vacuum connector from both harness retainers on the hvac module housing. You should first eliminate the defroster actuator but maintain the upper hvac module case attachment to the lower case by using the air inlet door to find hidden screws. User must release the upper hvac retention tab to split the lower from the upper component of the hvac module case. Begin the process by eliminating the outdated hvac module case seals. Then start taking out the primary seal from the lower hvac module case. You must start by taking out the Evaporator core from the bottom hvac module case. A replacement Evaporator core needs 90 ml (3 oz) of refrigerant oil before installation while you should put in a new water core filter and a new side seal matching the core corners and two extra lower seals that go at the outer Evaporator core points. The lower hvac module case requires installation of an Evaporator core and its new case seals beginning with the primary seal followed by the rest. Confirm that the upper hvac module case retaining tab requires a replacement external retaining clip which can be obtained from p/n 52458793 or an equivalent product. Secure the retaining tab by fitting the upper hvac module case into the lower case. Reinstall the defroster actuator while securing the retaining screws for the hvac module case with torque set at 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). Afterwards attach the defroster actuator and secure the vacuum harness before reinstalling the hvac module.
