2001 Chevrolet Corvette Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The replacement process for the Evaporator core starts with obtaining all required equipment that should include the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). The replacement starts with hvac module removal and then disconnecting the vacuum harness from its retainers that secure both ends of the hvac module case. Begin by taking out the defroster actuator then eliminate the screws which link the upper to the lower hvac module case before opening the air inlet door for accessibility to the hidden screw. Unclip the upper hvac module retaining tab from the lower case before removing the two sections apart. Begin the removal of the primary seal from the lower hvac module case after discarding its case seals. Intervention requires discarding all Evaporator core components while the upper and lower and side seals as well as water core filter get thrown out. When using a replacement Evaporator core it requires adding 90 ml (3 oz) of refrigerant oil before installing a new water core filter alongside the side seal and upper seal and two lower seals which must be positioned at the outer corners of the Evaporator core. Secure the Evaporator core into its place inside the lower hvac module case while adding newly installed case seals which should start with the primary seal. Examine the retaining tab on the upper hvac module case because damage requires installation of an external clip designated as p/n 52458793 (or equivalent). Secure the upper hvac module case to the lower case before using the retaining screws for installation while tightening them to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). You should finish by installing the defroster actuator followed by vacuum harness installation then putting the hvac module into its proper vehicle position.
