• Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2000 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: Start the Evaporator core replacement by taking out the hvac module from the vehicle while you also free the vacuum harness from its retainers at the hvac module case placed under the air inlet housing. After taking off the defroster valve vacuum actuator and exposing the hvac module case retaining screw you must remove the screws that fasten the hvac module case - upper to the hvac module case - lower while opening the air inlet valve for access to the hidden screw. Using a pair of pliers release the retaining tab which joins the hvac module case - upper to the hvac module case - lower so the two components may be separated. Remove the primary hvac module case seals from the Blower Motor side of the case which is attached to the hvac module case - lower. Discard both lower and upper and side seals of the Evaporator core and the water core filter after removing it. To fit the new core add 90 ml (3 oz) refrigerant oil followed by the water core filter and side seal and upper seal and two new lower seals placed at the outer core corners. Insert the Evaporator core into the hvac module case - lower while applying new case seals by starting with the hvac module case primary (blower motor side of case) seal. Check the retaining tab of the hvac module case - upper component for damage before installing an external retaining clip whose reference number is 52458793. Secure the retaining tab to the retaining slot between hvac module case - upper and hvac module case - lower while installing retaining screws with torque to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). The hvac module vacuum harness must be attached to both harness retainers before reinstalling the defroster valve vacuum actuator and repositioning the hvac module into the vehicle.
