2001 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator to the A/C evaporator tube on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start the installation process of the A/C Accumulator (AC P/N 151697) to the a/c Evaporator tube between the condenser and Evaporator by recovering the refrigerant. First remove the front Evaporator tube before you determine its length with a tubing cutter set at the condenser position. Measure 420 mm (16.5 in) to section the plastic insulation which will allow placement of the A/C Accumulator. Make marking points at 400 mm (15.7 in) and 450 mm (17.7 in) along the Evaporator tube before making any metal shavings enter it during tubing cutting or burr elimination. Cut the Evaporator tube to match each marking position while thoroughly removing any burrs that remain on the ends. When preparing to put ferrules on the Evaporator tube users must first remove o-rings from the A/C Accumulator. Install a flare nut along with one ferrule onto the Evaporator tube while the ferrule end points toward the flare nut before securely seating the A/C Accumulator with its arrow oriented toward the Evaporator by tightening the flare nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Install the other half of the Evaporator tube by applying lubricant to both o-rings and positioning them at the tube ends before achieving full ferrule-seating of the accumulator. After proper front Evaporator tube installation the refrigerant system evacuation and charging process should occur followed by a leak test using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
