2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the heater core on 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Service and repairs on the Heater Core require you to take off the air cleaner assembly together with the fuel injector sight shield for vehicles with 3.8l. Position aside the heater hose inlet and outlet clamp at the Heater Core with (J 38185). The service process starts by disconnecting Heater Core heater hoses at their inlet and outlet and then removing instrument panel insulators from right and left sides and the lower floor console. Start by removing the bolts which allows placement of the hvac wiring harness bracket to the side. The heater outlet cover must be placed downward and rearward to disconnect from the rear area floor duct assembly. This enables removal of the cover screws and subsequent heater outlet cover extraction. You should remove all the Heater Core cover screws before moving on to eliminate the cover itself but throwing away the seal (1,2) attached to the Heater Core cover. Disassemble the Heater Core outlet cover by removing its caulk thus discarding the outer seal and operating on the pipe retainer clamp screw and Heater Core line clamp screw. Start by removing the retaining clamp together with the Heater Core from the hvac tower case followed by taking off the tube support bracket and dismissing the hvac lower case's Heater Core lower seal and center seal and upper seal and side seals. Begin the installation process by inserting new Heater Core side seals into the hvac lower case before adding a combination of a new upper seal, center seal and lower seal. The Heater Core requires installation into the hvac lower case after clamping the Heater Core tube support bracket. Fasten a screw to the Heater Core line clamp and apply torque to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). After that, install the Heater Core mounting clip using a screw and achieve the same tightening specification. After affixing the Heater Core outer seal to its position, install (1,2) new seals on the Heater Core cover while applying caulk to the Heater Core outlet cover. Reinstall the Heater Core cover with its screws using a torque of 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Next attach the Heater Core outlet cover by screwing it in while using 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) torque. After installing both bolts of the hvac wiring harness bracket to 10 n.m torque (89 lb in) the installer should secure the lower floor console and right and left instrument panel insulators. Follow this procedure to install the Heater Core inlet and outlet hoses while positioning the Heater Core clamp according to specifications and use tool (J 38185) forhorizontalalignment when repositioning the heater hose clamps on the Heater Core. The coolant needs to be filled while the fuel injector sight shield should be installed on all vehicles with 3.8l engines and the air cleaner assembly must be reattached.
