• Q: How to replace the catalytic converter on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?

  A: Erase and hold the vehicle. Turn off the heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (HO2S2), and then remove the bolt and the clamps that hold the front pipe onto the three-way Catalytic Converter (TWC), and take off the 2 bolts that hold the twc onto the muffler/tail pipe assembly. Remove the hangers from the back of the twc and take the twc out of the vehicle. Clean the gasket and seal mating surfaces before joining the twc back in the vehicle by clamping it to the front using the clamp and 1 bolt to the front and 2 hangers to the rear. Mount the 2 bolts, to fix the twc, to the tail pipe assembly/muffler, tightening them by finger first. Make sure that all the system components are in alignment to avoid noise or vibration before incurring the fasteners; tighten front pipe-twc to clamp bolt; twc-tail pipe/muffler assembly bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, replace heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (HO2S2) and lower the vehicle.
