2001 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the catalytic converter on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The first step to install a new Catalytic Converter is to elevate your vehicle using a support system. Start by disconnecting the heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (H02S2). Then remove one bolt and clamp which secures the front pipe to the three-way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Finish by taking out the two bolts which attach the twc to the muffler/tail pipe assembly. Detach the hangers from the twc's back end before you pull out the twc from the vehicle. Clean down the gasket as well as the mating surfaces of the twc before installing your new unit. Secure the twc to the vehicle through the front clamp and one bolt and the rear using two hangers . Secure the twc to the muffler/tail pipe assembly by installing its two bolts while maintaining initial finger-tightening pressure. Ensure system component alignment before tightening fasteners starting with front pipe-to-twc clamp bolt and twc-to-muffler/tail pipe assembly bolts which should be fastened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Place back the heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (H02S2) and drop the vehicle to its original position.
