• Q: How to replace the exhaust manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?

  A: The replacement of the Exhaust Manifold requires starting with radiator system coolness to prevent burns and disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Before beginning remove both Oxygen Sensor nuts and the heated Oxygen Sensor electrical connector before taking off the Oxygen Sensor gasket along with the sensor itself from the Exhaust Pipe. Insert the following replacement sequence: first raise and secure the vehicle while removing two Exhaust Manifold bolts along with their springs and next proceed to remove the exhaust gasket. Begin by removing one bolt which connects the manifold support bracket to the Exhaust Manifold while lowering the vehicle in order to proceed with the removal of six upper heat insulator bolts that detach the heat insulator. Begin by taking out the Exhaust Manifold gasket and the Exhaust Manifold after removing five Exhaust Manifold nuts. Finally install the lower heat insulator by removing its three bolts. Installation begins by applying three bolts to fix the lower heat insulator onto the Exhaust Manifold at 15 nm torque setting before placing the new exhaust gasket and manifold which requires five Exhaust Manifold nuts at 48 nm torque setting. After raising and supporting the vehicle for the second time install one bolt to the Exhaust Manifold support bracket using 32 nm torque (24 ft. Lbs.). Secure the front Exhaust Pipe to the manifold flange through two bolts with two springs and tighten the front Exhaust Pipe bolts to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). During installation position the front Exhaust Pipe Oxygen Sensor which is gasketed then secure the heated Oxygen Sensor using two 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) nuts followed by a connection of the (H02S1) electrical connector before recharging the negative Battery Cable using 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.).
