Chevrolet Prizm Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the exhaust manifold on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: A proper procedure for serving the Exhaust Manifold begins with ensuring the exhaust system is cool followed by disabling the negative Battery Cable. The heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S1) electrical connector must be disconnected while removal of two Oxygen Sensor nuts, oxidation sensor gasket and Oxygen Sensor takes place from exhaust system pipe. Observe proper lifting procedure for the vehicle before removing two Exhaust Manifold bolts together with spring components from the Exhaust Manifold flange and the exhaust gasket. The installation requires you to lower the vehicle while you remove the solitary bolt between the manifold support bracket and Exhaust Manifold and then extract six upper heat insulator bolts as well as the heat insulator. The operation starts by disassembling the five Exhaust Manifold nuts and removing the Exhaust Manifold with its gasket and finishing with the three lower heat insulator bolt removal along with the lower heat insulator. The lower heat insulator should be fastened to the Exhaust Manifold using three bolts secured at 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the new Exhaust Manifold gasket along with the manifold to the engine block by using five Exhaust Manifold nuts with 48 nm (36 ft. Lbs.) torque. Place the upper heat insulator onto the assembly next before tightening its six bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs). Then elevate the vehicle once more. Apply one bolt to the Exhaust Manifold support bracket then tighten it to 32 nm (24 ft. Lbs.) before installing the front Exhaust Pipe to the manifold flange with two bolts and two springs which should be tightened to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). Place the new Oxygen Sensor gasket on the front Exhaust Pipe alongside the Oxygen Sensor. Secure the heated Oxygen Sensor using two nuts which should be tightened to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). The (H02S1) electrical connector installation completes the process followed by connecting the negative Battery Cable using a bolt which should be tightened to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.).
