• Q: How to replace the A/C Switch control assembly on 2002 Chevrolet Tracker?

  A: To replace the A/C Switch, one has to remove mode control cable at the heater case, and disconnect the defroster switch if available, and remove two screws fixing the switch. Then, remove the temperature control cable at heater case, open the instrument panel (IP) and lower it with pushing left and right sides. Disconnect the fresh/recirc control cable at the blower case and disconnect the A/C Switch connector if equipped. Remove the ip cluster trim bezel, slide the knobs off the levers, and carefully peel the heater control fascia away from the control assembly. Twist and pull out the bulb socket and pry out the three screws. Tilt the heater control unit in one side and pull it through the ip, the blower switch electrical connection should be disconnected. Take note of location of routing of the cables for easy installation and then pull out the heater control unit with cables attached. If possible, you may also pull the blower switch and A/C Switch out of the heater control unit. Remove each control cable from the heater control unit by carefully separating the temperature control cable, mode control cable, and fresh/recirc control cable sheaths from the unit and dislodging them from their lever arms. For the control, mount the control cables to the heater control by connecting each cable to the lever arm hole of the heater control unit, slide sheath back on cable, align the sheath with the sheath retainer, and slide it until it snaps. If necessary, connect the A/C Switch and blower switch to the heater control unit. Set the cables, position the heater control unit, install it to the ip, and then connect the blower switch electrical connector. Mount the bulb socket, heater control fascia, and the three screws, followed by the knobs to the levers and ip cluster trim bezel. Attach the A/C Switch connector if you have it, install the fresh/recirc control cable into the pin of the fresh/recirc door and then tie it to the clip of the heater case. Close ip compartment, install the temperature control cable and mode control cable at the heater case. If available, join the defroster switch and mount it back with the two screws. Finally, re-adjust the control cables as needed.
