2002 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2002 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: A proper refrigerant recovery process followed by required precautions needs to take place before replacing the Evaporator core. The sir system must be disabled while using the negative cable of the battery as an electrical disconnect point. First remove the instrument panel carrier before taking out the bolt then twisting the plate counterclockwise to detach the Evaporator inlet and outlet tubes at the bulkhead. Prevent contamination by capping open refrigerant lines and then disconnect the Evaporator temperature sensor electrical connector from the compressor control module. To extract the Evaporator case from the vehicle remove first the 6 screws and 2 nuts before taking out the Evaporator case and then remove the 5 screws and insulation from the Evaporator case. To proceed with Evaporator extraction begin by disassembling the Evaporator case halves then pull the Evaporator unit from the lower case unit. The expansion valve needs two bolt removal to free itself while the Evaporator temperature sensor must be extracted. The Evaporator should be placed into the lower case followed by attaching the Evaporator temperature sensor and securing the expansion valve with two bolts. Assembly of the Evaporator case starts with attaching the 5 screws between its halves and by placing the Evaporator case inside the vehicle. Fasten the five screws and two nuts securing the parts at 10 n.m (89 lb in). Reinstall the Evaporator temperature sensor electrical connector to the compressor control module and then install new o-rings on Evaporator pipe fittings which should be coated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil. Secure the bulkhead connection between Evaporator inlet and outlet by rotating the plate to the direction and fasten it with a bolt. After reattaching the instrument panel carrier enable the sir system and reconnect the negative Battery Cable while conducting an air conditioning system leak check through evacuation and recharging.
