2002 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to safely replace the ABS Control Module on 2002 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: The replacement of Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) requires the complete brake pressure modulator valve assembly to ensure safety since all screws need to remain tight to preserve leak resistance in brake circuits and safeguard from personal harm. First turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the Connector Position Assurance from its connector. First depress the lock tab while sliding the connector cover to open position before disconnecting the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) harness connector. Protect all painted surfaces by covering them when brake fluid drips and mark the locations of all brake pipes for reinstallation. Set the wheel cylinder brake pipes aside from the BPMV by relocating them gently and covering their exposed areas to prevent fluid pouring or contamination. Remove the upper BPMV bracket mounting bolt that attaches the upper BPMV mounting bracket to the lower mounting bracket before removing the BPMV with EBCM assembly from the vehicle but keep the EBCM seal safe from damage. To replace exclusively the BPMV you should uninstall the EBCM. Install the EBCM onto the BPMV when changing just the BPMV before placing both components onto the lower mounting bracket while tightening the connecting bolt to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.). Proper connection of brake pipes to the BPMV will prevent wheel lockup which can be evaluated through a Scan Tool or an Antilock stop test. Newly installed BPMV requires removal of supplied shipping plugs from each valve opening. The master cylinder brake pipes should be installed onto the BPMV then secured with 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs. torque) before mounting wheel cylinder brake pipes and applying 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs. torque). Complete the connection of EBCM harness connector then depress the lock tab while moving the sliding connector cover into its locked position before CPA reinstallation. The automated ABS bleed procedure must be finished as the final step.
