2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the inner tie rod end on 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Start the inner Tie Rod End replacement task by getting an inner tie rod wrench (J34028). Start by removing the Rack and Pinion Boot then fix the gear between vise jaws yet maintain the steering gear preload adjustment at its current setting. Put the shock dampener apart from the inner tie rod assembly then insert it back onto the rack. A pipe wrench should be fitted at the steering gear valve end to protect the tie rod housing before placing another pipe wrench on the rack so it faces the inner tie rod housing. A wrench applied to the flats of the inner tie rod housing should be turned counterclockwise to detach it from the rack . Apply the pipe wrench technique to the different end of the rack while keeping it positioned on the opposite gear end. Clear the threads of the rack together with the inner tie rod before removing all remaining loctite residue. Start by positioning the shock dampener ahead of the rack before applying loctite 262 (or equivalent) to the inner tie rod threads then attaching the inner tie rod to its proper position on the rack . The valve end of the steering gear needs a pipe wrench against the inner tie rod housing which should get tightened to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) through the use of a torque wrench and inner tie rod wrench (J34028). Position the shock dampener onto the inner tie rod housing at least until it reaches its final stopping point before restarting on the inner tie rod and rack assembly. Finish the process by taking out the gear from the vise before installing the Rack and Pinion Boot.
