2002 Chevrolet Venture Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Start by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before replacing the rear brake pads. The fluid level should be checked against the midway point between maximum-full and minimum allowable measurements. Then follow the steps to reduce fluid until the correct point is reached. Begin by lifting and supporting the vehicle before taking off the wheel and tire. Use two wheel nuts to secure the rotor while applying a c-clamp against the back of the outboard Brake Pad until the brake caliper piston reaches the bore depth required for caliper removal from the rotor. After removing the c-clamp and the upper caliper bolt you can rotate the brake caliper down to replace the brake pads without unanchoring it from the bracket . Pull out brake pads numbers 9 and 10 along with their retainers from the caliper bracket . Insert a wood piece or the old pad between the c-clamp and piston to avoid damage. Compress the piston fully using a c-clamp in the bore and inspect brake caliper boot bolts along with piston boot for signs of damage before replacement. You need to change out brake caliper bolts if you see corrosion or find any damage on them. Brake Pad installation requires caliper boot surface cleaning with denatured alcohol and piston compression through a c-clamp with protective shielding while strategically placing the wear sensor correctly on Brake Pad retainers. Align brake pads (9 and 10) over the retainers before placing them onto the caliper bracket . Then swing the caliper upward to support it using heavy gauge wire. You should apply lubrication to the bolt before screwing in the upper caliper bolt keeping torque at 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Replace wheel nuts apply tire and wheel then lower the vehicle before adding clean brake fluid into the master cylinder. Do not drive the vehicle until the Brake Pedal achieves sufficient firmness. To achieve firmness in the Brake Pedal pressure perform pumping actions until you reach the target resistance level followed by pad and rotor polishing.
