2002 Chevrolet Venture Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Begin the inspection of the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir to change the front brake pads: if the level is above the middle of the maximum-full and minimum allowable points, remove the fluid to the midway point. Lift up the machine and take off the tire and the wheel. Tighten the two wheel nuts to secure the rotor and use a c-clamp over the top of the brake caliper against the back of the outboard Brake Pad until the Brake Caliper Piston is compressed into the bore enough to slide the brake caliper off the rotor. Pull out the c-clamp and the lower Brake Caliper Bolt, then lift the brake caliper up in order to get into the brake pads. Unscrew the brake pads and the brake pads retainers from Brake Caliper Bracket, making sure to put a block of wood or the old Brake Pad between c-clamp and Brake Caliper Piston to prevent it from being damaged. Mount a c-clamp over the brake caliper and pressing firmly against the block of wood or old Brake Pad, twisting the c-clamp until the piston draws into the bore entirely. Check out the Brake Caliper Bolt boots and the Brake Caliper Piston boot for cuts, tears or degradation, and replace them if damaged and brake caliper bolts for corrosion or breakage, that require new parts. During the installation of new brake pads, you need to keep the outside surface of the caliper boot clean using denatured alcohol while you compress the piston to the bottom of the caliper bore by using a c-clamp and cover with protective barrier. Mount the two Brake Pad retainers into the caliper bracket while keeping the wear sensor on the leading edge of the outer pad. Mount the brake pads up over the retainers and over the caliper bracket, lubriate the bolt and the bolt boot and pivot the caliper down over the pads then mount the lower caliper bolt and tighten it up to 85nm (63ft. Lbs.). Take off the 2 wheel nuts holding the rotor in place, fix the wheel/tire to the vehicle, lower the vehicle, fill up the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid, pump the brake pedal till firm, and burnish the pads and rotors lastly.
