2001 Chevrolet Venture Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2001 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Before working on the rear brake pads check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Drain fluid when needed to reach the midway point between maximum-full and minimum levels. Lift up your car and take off both tire and wheel facing the vehicle. Settle the rotor with two wheel nuts before clamping the brake caliper against the back pad with a c-clamp until the piston enters the bore and lets the caliper move off the rotor. Lower the brake caliper off its bracket through the removal of its upper bolt and c-clamp. Separate the brake pads (9 and 10) from both their positions in the caliper bracket while removing the two Brake Pad retainers. To avoid brake damage put wood or the Brake Pad between the caliper piston and c-clamp before using the tool to fully push the piston into the bore. Check if the Brake Caliper Bolt boots and Brake Caliper Piston boot show damage signs. Replace parts if damage exists. Replace brake components if you spot corrosion when checking the brake caliper bolts for damage and rust. Before assembling new brake pads apply denatured alcohol to the caliper boot surface and force the piston to its lowest position in the bore by setting a c-clamp and protective block below it. Put the two Brake Pad retainers on the caliper bracket with the wear sensor facing toward the leading edge of the outer pad. Insert brake pads 9 and 10 onto their scheduled brackets then lift the caliper body with heavy wire support as you rotate it around the pads. Apply lubricant to these parts before inserting them and fastening the top caliper bolt at 45 nm torque. Put the wheel nuts back on the rotor before sliding on the tire and wheel parts then lowering the car. Top off the brake master cylinder with fresh fluid until the Brake Pedal gives strong resistance. Wait until you can achieve this resistance by pumping the pedal before driving the vehicle away. Finally, burnish the pads and the rotors.
