    A: First disable the sir system before replacing the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor. Detach the maf and iat sensor harnesses before loosening the tube clamp and removing the air tube from the throttle body cover. Remove the bolts that secure the upper radiator shroud before removing the fan and clutch assembly then lowest radiator shroud. Remove the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor from its mounting cradle by disconnecting the sensor harness connector at the top of the cradle then unscrewing the bolts which secure the sensor. Before sensor installation users must clean the mounting surface then place the sensor flat and make sure the arrow faces forward towards the vehicle direction. All fasteners should experience a torque of 6.5 n.m while tightening (58 lb in). It is necessary to discard the broken rivet and install the sensor with a new rivet gm p/n 15715058 or equivalent if you discover damage to sensor mounting holes or fasteners. To replace the sensor second time around start by removing the existing rivet then expand the lower radiator support mounting holes to 9.0 mm (0.35 in) before inserting a rivnut (GM P/N 15699834 or equivalent) resulting in sensor installation with screw gm p/n 11515664 secured at 6.5 n.m (58 lb in). When installing the sensor follow this sequence: connect the harness, reinstall the lower radiator shroud and fans assembly and upper radiator shroud and the maf sensor-equipped air box. The last procedure entails hooking up the air tube to the throttle body air intake while using a clamp followed by reconnecting iat sensor and maf harness connectors before activating sir functionality.
