2002 GMC Safari Starter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: Start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and hoisting the vehicle before the Starter motor replacement. Begin by removing both Starter motor mounting bolts and any previously used shims then lower the Starter motor. First disconnect the Starter enable relay lead , the battery positive cable , and the generator output (BAT) lead from the Starter solenoid field leads before starting the Starter motor removal process. During installation begin by connecting the Starter motor field leads through a loose connection of the Starter enable relay lead to the Starter solenoid terminal with the terminal retaining tab in place. Connect the Starter motor field leads so the Starter enable relay lead joins the solenoid terminal and the battery positive cable connects with the Starter solenoid but remains loose at both terminals. Apply 2 n.m (18 lb in) torque on the Starter enable relay lead nut while tightening the battery positive cable nut to 19 n.m (14 lb ft). Insert both Starter motor mounting bolts with any needed shims into the Starter until it reaches the engine. Torque these bolts to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Lower the vehicle after finishing battery negative cable reattachment.
