2002 GMC Savana 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2002 GMC Savana 3500?
A: The first step to replace the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) requires properly supporting the raised vehicle. You must remove the three EHCU shield bolts and install the shield before disconnecting four EBCM electrical connectors and one electrical connector from the combination valve. Begin by pulling out brake pipes that connect from the master cylinder to the combination valve and continuing with the right front along with left front and rear brake pipes from the tube adapters. The three EHCU bracket frame bolts need removal for you to take off the EHCU from the frame. The method to replace the EBCM requires removal of the three BPMV bracket bolts before extracting the four T-25 TOW bolts that secure the EBCM to the BPMV . Some force may be necessary but using tools to pry can damage the EBCM. The three Allen bolts securing the combination valve should be removed before pulling out the combination valve from its mount position. Installation of fresh transfer tubes should be done instead of reusing previously used ones. You should insert new transfer tubes into a combination valve before attaching the combination valve to the BPMV. Fasten the combination valve onto the BPMV using three Allen bolts before you tighten them to 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.) followed by 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.). Position the EBCM onto the BPMV before fastening it using four new EBCM bolts which should be tightened to 5 Nm (39 inch lbs.) through an X-pattern. Secure the BPMV to its bracket through three retaining bolts which require 9 Nm (7 ft.lbs.) torque before installing the EHCU onto the vehicle frame with its three bolts tightened at 9 Nm (7 ft.lbs.). Route and fasten the brake pipes leading to the tube adapters while torqueing the front brake fittings at 20 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) and the rear brake fitting to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). The front and rear brake pipes need installation between the master cylinder and combination valve with a torque of 30 Nm for each of the three brake pipe fittings. Attach the combination valve electrical connector and connect all four EBCM electrical connectors. The installation process ends with EHCU shield attachment by tightening its three bolts to 12 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) before lowering the vehicle and bleeding the brake system while keeping the combination valve metering rod depressed.
