When changing the thermostat, you will have to remove the air cleaner and duct assembly, drain off a partial amount of the coolant partially, and unattach the radiator hose. Take out the thermostat housing, go ahead and remove the thermostat, and clean the surfaces. Install the thermostat and housings, reconnect the radiator hose, and add cooling system and inspecting possible leaks.
