- Q: How to service the Air Bag Sensor for the side impact on 2003 Buick Century?A: Service procedures for the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS) require disabling the SIR system first. Before powering the SIS keep it secured to the mounting points through proper fasteners to protect yourself from accidental deployment or harm. Start by taking out the lower trim from the center pillar and unstow the 2 fasteners that hold the inflatable restraint side impact sensor. Afterward, extract the sensor from the center pillar. Processing begins with disconnecting the connector position assurance (CPA) from the side impact sensor connector followed by disconnection of the connector. Before installation wipe off the mounting area from contaminants then add the side impact sensor connector and place the CPA into position. Place the side impact sensor onto the center pillar while keeping its arrow-side forward. Fasten the sensor with the provided hardware until it achieves 10 N.m (89 lb in) torque through hand tightening. Reinstall the center pillar lower trim before enabling SIR system operation.
