2003 Buick Century Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2003 Buick Century?
A: To replace the rear Brake Pad first look at the fluid level of the brake master cylinder reservoir, if it is below this midway point between maximum-full and minimum allowable levels, fill so as to equal this midway point. Lift and brace up the vehicle, and take out the rear tire and the wheel assembly. Fit a hand-tightened lug nut so as to secure the rotor to the hub, as well as compress the caliper piston with a c-clamp for clearance. Remove the upper bolt of the caliper, being careful not to clip the pin boot during the rotation of the wheel. Lift the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire to support the flexible brake hose that had to bear up the weight of the brake caliper. Turn the caliper down so that you can access the pads without the removal of the caliper and take out the brake pads and the 2 pad clips from the caliper bracket. Check the mounting hardware of the caliper and dust boot for cuts, tears, and deterioration and replace any damaged component, spot-check the caliper bolts for corrosion, and use new bolts where needed. To install new brake pads, bottom the piston inside the caliper bore with a c-clamp with an old Brake Pad or a block of wood in place to safeguard the piston and caliper boot. Mount the 2 retainers on the caliper bracket such that the wear sensor is located at the outside pad's trailing edge. Mount the pads into the caliper bracket, then swing the caliper up around the pads. Lubricate the upper caliper bolt and boot with a silicone grease, and tighten the caliper bolt 44 nm (32 Ft. Lbs.). After that, disconnect the lug nut holding the rotor and fit back the rear tire and its rim assembly in accordance with the previous marks and lower the vehicle. While the engine is off, carefully press the Brake Pedal to 2/3 travel, then slowly take your foot off the Brake Pedal. Now wait 15 seconds and then do this step again until a firm Brake Pedal is created to seat the caliper pistons and brake pads correctly. To end it all, top up the brake master cylinder reservoir to its correct level and burnish the pads and rotors.
