2002 Buick Century Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2002 Buick Century?
A: Your work starts with inspecting brake fluid; drain some fluid when the reservoir shows more than halfway between its highest and lowest markings to reach the midpoint. Place the vehicle on a lift then detach the wheel from the backside. The hub axle stays secure with a hand-tightened lug nut while a c-clamp pushes down on the caliper piston for installation space. Lift the caliper away by removing its upper bolt but keep the pin boot safe from harm. Take out the brake pads and their 2 pad clips from the caliper bracket while checking the caliper mounting hardware and dust boot for damages that require replacement. Replace the caliper bolts when you notice corrosion because old bolts may fail. Lower the piston into the caliper bore with a c-clamp while using Brake Pad or wood to shield the piston and boot. Mount the 2 retainers onto the caliper bracket so the wear sensor connects to the trailing part of the outside pad. Lower the caliper onto its position over the pads and move the caliper up over them. Apply silicone grease to the bolt and boot before installing the upper caliper bolt with 44 nm force (32 ft. Lbs.). Put the wheel lug nut back on the rotor and install the tire wheel assembly while matching your earlier markings. Finally lower the vehicle down. Before starting the engine you should press the Brake Pedal to 2/3 depth of its travel and release it slowly. Continuously press the Brake Pedal through 15 second intervals before the pedal feels strong enough to push the pistons into proper position with the brake pads. Replace the brake reservoir to its proper level then run the brake pads and rotors to bed them in.
