2001 Buick Century Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2001 Buick Century?
A: Begin replacement of front brake pads by checking brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level then continue with the process. The fluid level positioning between maximum-full and minimum allows you to skip any removal but requires a reduction to mid-level if the level exceeds this range. Lifting and supporting the vehicle allows the technician to remove tire and wheel combinations. A large c-clamp should be used to compress the front caliper piston while placing it over the top of the caliper housing and pressing against the outboard pad. Hand-tighten two wheel lug nuts to keep the rotor attached to the hub before the caliper slides off the rotor when the piston enters the caliper bore enough. After c-clamp removal and lower caliper bolt removal proceed by lifting the caliper while watching for pin boot damage. Extract the pads from the caliper bracket and dissolve the two retainer slides from the caliper bracket. Check the disc brake mounting components and caliper dust boot for cuts, tears or deterioration as well as replace any defective parts. If corrosion or damage appears on caliper bolts use new parts including bushings for correct installation. Install the caliper piston using a c-clamp and a Brake Pad or wooden block as to protect the piston and caliper boot from damage. When fitting the caliper bracket retainers make sure the wear sensor faces the outside pad at the leading edge of forward wheel rotation. Position the pads onto the caliper anchor bracket followed by removing the support to reposition the caliper over the front pads. Apply lubricant to both the bolt and boot components afterward install the lower caliper bolt at 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.) torque. After detaching the two wheel lug nuts from the hub to rotor connection you can install the tire-wheel combination while lowering the vehicle. Tug gentle pressure on the Brake Pedal after engine shutdown until reaching 2/3 of Brake Pedal length then slow release the pedal several times until proper Brake Pad and piston caliper seating occurs. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir with the appropriate level then burnish both pads and rotors.
