2000 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2000 Buick Century?
A: Start Brake Pad replacement by draining two-thirds of the master cylinder fluid and raising and supporting the automobile. Coordinate the wheel position before taking out the tire and wheel unit while using two wheel nuts to secure the rotor. Employ a c-clamp over the caliper housing top to push its Piston to the bore until you can slide the caliper off the rotor. Turn the caliper body upward after you remove its lower bolt carefully to reach the pads without hurting the pin boot. Check all parts of the caliper bracket for damage and replace components that are torn or broken. Also inspect and replace worn bolt boots and Piston boot. If you spot any damage or corrosion on the caliper bolts replace them immediately. First clean the caliper boot surface using denatured alcohol followed by bottoming the Piston into position through the caliper bore with a c-clamp and a metal plate or wooden block to prevent damage. Push the inner part of the boot away from the Piston to clean trapped air beneath the Piston before setting it flat. Fix the two retainers to the caliper holder using new brake pads or positioning them parallel to avoid caliper or parking brake blockage. Set the pads in the proper position on the caliper anchor bracket and move the caliper slowly down before securely tightening its lower bolt to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). Detach the wheel nuts from rotor-hub connection then mount tires and wheels according to prior marks while lowering the car. Put clean brake fluid into the master cylinder until the correct mark then push the Brake Pedal three times to set the pads in place while also making the pads and rotors smooth.
