2003 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the emblem/nameplate on the rear compartment lid on 2003 Buick Century?
A: You must apply tape to protect the installation surface before aligning the future positioning marks for the new emblem/nameplate. Apply a J 25070 Heat Gun at 152 mm distance to the emblem/nameplate with a circular motion for 30 seconds. You can use a plastic flat tool to safely lift the emblem/nameplate from its position. The body panels need a 3M(TM) Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk (3M(TM) P/N 07501) to detach adhesives. Plastic panels require a Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha mix or a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water solution when blotting with a lint-free cloth. Dry the surface with the same cleansing solution after cleaning the installation area with it. Put marking tape on the bare surface to show where the emblem/nameplate should go before starting. Position the SUPERCHARGED emblem as indicated in the instructions while the GS emblem needs to be placed 85.725 mm (3.375 in) below at 31.750 mm (1.250 in) right from the rear compartment lid edge. Place the LS emblem/nameplate using the guide instructions. Warm the mounting area between 80 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit using the J 25070 Heat Gun (J 25070) and make sure the emblem/nameplate stays at 85 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Press down firmly when you match the marks with the emblem/nameplate without touching its adhesive backing. Place the decorative part on the marks evenly and slightly warm the mounting surface to 27-41°C using the J 25070 Heat Gun (J 25070). Keep the designed temperature at 29-32°C.
