2003 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left camshaft on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: The first step to replace the left Camshaft involves removing the bolt securing ground lead of the coolant heater when using a ka3 rpo code. The first step involves removing both the left Camshaft cover together with its drive sprockets. Start by using the loosening sequence to alternately loosen the Camshaft bearing cap bolts a few turns before removing these bolts and bearing caps while recording the code marks (R1, R2, R3, etc.) on the bearing caps. First remove the camshafts from the cylinder head then extract the Camshaft seals while cleaning every surface on the bearings and seal area. Check the camshafts for replacement while verifying that the stamping on each Camshaft indicates its intended purpose between intake and exhaust work. The lubrication process of Camshaft bearing surfaces and lobes uses gm p/n 1052367 (Canadian P/N 992869) or equivalent which helps minimize load when installing the pins on the camshafts correctly. Secure the camshafts into the cylinder head without permitting sealer to penetrate the caps' oil journal before adding a minimal amount of gm p/n 1052942 (Canadian P/N 10953466) or equivalent to the front bearing caps' forward edge. Apply the Camshaft bearing caps according to their identification marks while starting each bolt by hand until they reach full seating then torque them to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Use the Camshaft/front main seal installer (J 35268-A) to drive clean engine oil-coated Camshaft seals until they achieve uniform and full insertion. Before finishing the installation replace both Camshaft drive sprockets on the left side and the left Camshaft cover with additional steps to tighten the bolt at the ground lead of the coolant heater to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) if rpo code ka3 is present (weighs 0.6 kg and requires hand tightening).
