Camshaft

The replacement process of the right Camshaft starts with removing the right Camshaft cover and right Camshaft drive sprockets. Use the specified sequence to alternatively loosen the Camshaft bearing cap bolts by a few turns before removing them all together with their bearing caps and recording the code marks found on the caps (L1, L2, L3, etc.). After extracting the camshafts from the Cylinder Head and the Camshaft seals you should clean all bearing and sealing surfaces before conducting an inspection of the camshafts. Check the Camshaft availability before selecting one for installation while verifying that intake stays separate from exhaust by their unique stamps. The bearing surfaces and lobes should be lubricated with gm p/n 1052367 (Canadian P/N 992869) or equivalent before positions are set to 11 o'clock for the exhaust Camshaft pin and 12 o'clock for the intake Camshaft pin to minimize bearing cap installation loads. Then apply a small amount of gm p/n 1052942 (Canadian P/N 10953466) or equivalent on the forward edge of the front bearing caps for sealing. Use the identification marks to install the bearing caps before tightening the bearing cap bolts one by one up to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.) after manual tightening. The Camshaft/front main seal installer (J 35268-A) taps the Camshaft Seal into its correct position while the lip receives engine oil coating before complete and uniform seating. The procedure ends with installation of the right Camshaft drive sprockets and right Camshaft cover.

Coat the lip of the camshaft seal with clean engine oil and use the Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer (J35268-A) to tap the seal into place, ensuring it is fully and evenly seated.

Tighten them to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).

Lubricate them with GM P/N 1052367 (Canadian P/N 992869) or equivalent.
