  • Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
    A: Start the replacement of the lower intermediate Steering Shaft by first straightening front wheels and setting the Steering Column into lock position to protect against sir coil assembly misalignment and damage. First position the front wheels with the Steering Wheel then set the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the lock position while you remove the key. Sequence the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) through the access hole in the lower Steering Column trim cover to lock the Steering Column. Keep the vehicle elevated for maintenance while observing the correct spatial relationships between upper and lower intermediate shafts and their connection points to the power steering gear unit. Start by removing the upper intermediate shaft-to-lower intermediate shaft retaining bolt followed by removing the lower intermediate shaft-to-power steering gear retaining bolt. Remove the lower intermediate shaft entirely by detaching it from the power steering gear and upper intermediate shaft and the power steering gear. According to installation procedure connect both the lower intermediate shaft to the upper intermediate shaft before installing them to the power steering gear. Install the lower intermediate shaft power steering gear retaining bolt with a torque of 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) and then execute the same torque setting for the upper intermediate shaft to lower intermediate shaft retaining bolt. Lower the vehicle then remove the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) through the access hole in the lower trim cover to unlock the Steering Column.
