    A: Replacement of wheel drive shaft inner joint and seal requires these essential tools: the required tools consist of snap ring pliers (J8059) and drive axle seal clamp pliers (J35910) and drive axle swage ring clamp (J41048). Snap ring pliers (J8059), drive axle seal clamp pliers (J35910), and drive axle swage ring clamp (J41048). First examine the transmission sealing surface of the halfshaft for rust then use 320-grit cloth to clean it for replacement. A hand grinder can safely cut through the swage ring ensuring the tripot housing remains intact. Dispose of the large boot retaining clamp while maintaining the integrity of the wheel drive shaft's inboard seal. To separate the halfshaft inboard boot from its trilobal tripot bushing and slide the boot aside you must first remove the housing which contains the tripot joint spider and halfshaft bar. The tripot balls and needle rollers and housing need cleaning with solvent to remove damage and signs of wear after discarding the trilobal tripot bushing. When assembling the joint boot put a new small boot clamp onto the halfshaft bar and align it properly before moving forward. Secure the drive axle swage ring clamp (J41048) in a vise before aligning the halfshaft assembly and applying alternating bolt torque to make it secure. Snap ring pliers (J8059) allows you to install the spacer ring before sliding the tripot joint spider assembly towards it. Insert the halfshaft bar retaining ring before adding grease to the inboard boot and housing of the halfshaft. After making sure the trilobal tripot bushing touches the housing face directly you should install the larger clamp on the halfshaft inboard boot before moving the housing over the tripot joint spider assembly. Use drive axle seal clamp pliers (J35910) to properly shape the halfshaft inboard boot and position the seal and tripot housing before crimping the large seal retaining clamp to the specified torque. To distribute the grease properly you should complete several full strokes of the joint until the grease spreads evenly.
