    Q:
How to Service and Repair the CV Joint Boot on Cadillac Eldorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Picking the tools required for servicing and repair of the constant velocity joint boot are as follow. Snap ring pliers (J8059), earred-clamp tool (J35910), and small swage tool (J41048). Disassemble by first undoing the large boot retaining clamp of the CV Joint with a side cutter and disposing of it, and then the small boot retaining clamp of the halfshaft bar. Keep it, remove the outboard boot from the CV Joint outer race, and slide it away. Clean the grease off the CV Joint inner race before using the snap ring pliers (J8059) to spread the race retaining ear and to extract the CV Joint assembly from the bar. Take the boot out of the bar, tap lightly on the CV Joint cage to knock out the chrome alloy balls, until all six are out. Clean the dirty inside and outside race sets, CV Joint cage having a ball surface with cleaning solvent, making sure every part is cleaned out from its old fats and grime before drying them out. For assembly, attach a new swage ring to the small end of joint boot and both slide it onto the halfshaft bar. Position the boot into boot groove and the mount the small swage tool (J41048) in vise ensuring that the outboard end of the halfshaft assembly and the boot neck are aligned. Fasten and tighten alternate bolts with the tool. Apply grease to the grooves on the ball of the inner and outer races, then put the inner race into the cage while maintaining alignment. Put the cage and inter race inside the outer race, add drag the chrome balls until all of them are there. Pack the CV Joint with grease, press it on the halfshaft bar while the retaining ring is seated, and make sure that the outboard boot is correctly shaped. Finally, over-clothe the large diameter of the outboard boot on the CV Joint outer race and crimp the boot retaining clamp, using the earred clamp tool (J35910), a breaker bar, and a torque wrench to 176 nm (130 ft lbs.), checking the gap dimension of the clamp ear.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the CV Joint Boot on Cadillac Seville? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to service and repair the constant velocity joint boot, here are the tools necessary: snap ring pliers (J 8059), drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910), and drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048). To begin the disassembly, use a side cutter to remove the large boot retaining clamp from the CV Joint, and discard the same, once you have removed the small boot retaining clamp from the halfshaft bar. Before getting all the required tools and supplies, the boot separate from the CV Joint outer race and slide away. Clean the grease off the CV Joint inner race, using the snap ring pliers (J 8059), spread the ears of the race retaining ring, and remove the CV Joint assembly from the bar. Reach inside the boot and remove the boot from the CV Joint cage; tap and pull gently on the chrome alloy balls within the CV Joint cage until six have been pulled out; repeat. Clean all of these: inner race assemblies, outer race assemblies, CV Joint cage, and balls, with cleaning solvent making sure that all the old grease and contaminants are removed and dried before use. For assembly, add the new swage ring at the little end of the joint boot and slide the whole on the halfshaft bar. Jack the opposite end of the leaf spring until the boot is pressed into the boot groove, then install the drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048) to the other end of the spring boot in a vise, aligning the boot neck and bolt it on until snug. Position the halfshaft outboard boot, boot grooves, and swage ring, then torque each bolt of the drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048) 180 degrees at a time with a ratchet wrench. Before fitting the inner race through all-in-one, necessitates that you fit a light coat of grease in the grooves of the ball on the inside and the outside races. Put the cage inside the outer race along with the inner race, put the chrome balls in, and fill the CV Joint with grease. Force the CV Joint onto the halfshaft bar to the point where the retaining ring lands so the outboard boot does not dimple or stretch. Slide the large diameter part of the outboard boot over the CV Joint outer race and use the drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910) with a breaker bar, torque wrench at 176 n.m (130 lb ft) in order to crimp the boot retaining clamp. Lastly, inspect the clamp gap dimension on the clamp ear and keep on tightening until the defined dimension is attained.
