It is important to check the halfshaft transmission sealing surface for corrosion before performing necessary cleaning. Use a hand grinder to cut through the swage ring while taking care not to harm the tripot housing. Free the large boot retaining clamp before working to detach the halfshaft boot from the trilobal tripot bushing at its wide portion so you can move the boot out of the joint's way. Begin by taking the tripot joint spider with housing from the halfshaft bar before removing the trilobal tripot bushing from the housing assembly. The snap ring pliers serve to open the spacer ring before you reposition both the spacer ring and tripot joint spider onto the halfshaft bar. Remove the halfshaft bar retaining ring after which you can slide the tripot joint spider assembly from the halfshaft bar. Wash the tripot balls, needle rollers and housing with solvent while removing all old grease and contaminants before examining all components for wear and damage. To assemble the joint boot start by placing a new small boot clamp onto the small end of the joint boot and sliding it onto the halfshaft bar. The small boot end must fit into the groove found on the halfshaft bar. Attach the small swage tool to a vise fixture before placing the halfshaft assembly outboard section into the tool's holding region and proper alignment of the boot neck. Bind and tighten the bolts until they reach proper torque while making sure the halfshaft inboard boot stays clear of pinched areas. Use the small swage tool to join the inboard boot to the housing with each bolt done in 180-degree rotations. Mount the halfshaft bar spacer ring with snap ring pliers to expose the counterbored face of the tripot joint spider at the end of the halfshaft bar. Slide the tripot joint spider assembly toward the spacer ring before installation of the halfshaft bar retaining ring and final position of the trilobal tripot bushing facing the housing front surface. Put half of the grease into the inboard boot of the halfshaft before filling the remainder of the housing. The installation process begins by installing the trilobal tripot bushing to the housing followed by placement of the larger new boot retaining clamp on the halfshaft inboard boot. Finally place the housing over the tripot joint spider assembly. Maintain proper shape on the halfshaft inboard boot before driving the joint assembly to the specified vehicle dimension. During latching perform the following steps: align the halfshaft inboard boot with the tripot housing, large boot retaining clamp and crimp the clamp to 176 nm (130 ft. Lbs.) torque using an earred clamp tool and breaker bar and torque wrench.
