- Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair the CV Joint Boot for the Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint and Seal Replacement on 2007 Buick Lucerne?A: To service an repair the constant velocity joint boot especially service and repair the wheel drive shaft inner join and finalization of seal a following tool are required: drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910), drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048), and snap ring pliers (J 8059). Start by checking the transmission sealing surface for corrosion and if there is any, clean it using 320 grit cloth. Cut through the swage ring with a hand grinder then take off the large seal retaining clamp with side cutters, being careful not to harm the inboard seal. Begin separating the halfshaft inboard seal from the trilobal tripot bushing and slide it to a distance from the joint. De-housing the tripot joint spider and trash out the trilobal tripot bushing and spacer rings and inboard boot. Clean the halfshaft bar and all components using cleaning solvent and check for any damage or wear. During assembly, position a new small swage ring onto the joint seal, positioning it at the top of the halfshaft bar. Secure the halfshaft assembly and ensure that no pinch points can be found by using j 41048. This bolt should be tightened until snug simultaneously with an opposite bolt. After that, you should install the spacer ring using j 8059. Place the housing back with grease and make sure that the trilobal tripot bushing is flush with the housing face. Mount the new bushing and place the larger seal retain clamp on the halfshaft inboard seal. Slide the housing onto the tripot joint spider assembly and make sure the proper vehicle dimension size is achieved. Crimp the seal retaining clamp with j 35910 to the torque specified, ensuring the gap dimension on the clamp ear is as required and adjust as needed.
