Outer CV Joint

To service and repair the constant velocity joint boot for the wheel drive shaft outer joint and seal replacement the following tools will be needed, such as: j 35910 drive axle seal clamp pliers, j 41048 drive axle swage ring clamp, and j 8059 snap ring pliers. The removal process starts with the big seal retaining clamp and shows the x hcv j hnd x hnd cv of the joint, and discarding it by removing the little seal retaining clamp of the halfshaft bar. Loosen the outboard seal from the CV Joint outer race and clean the grease off the CV Joint inner race. Using j 8059 apply on the ears of the race retaining ring and split the CV Joint assembly off the bar. Lift off the seal from the bar and tap on the CV Joint cage using a brass drift and hammer in the removal of all chrome alloy balls . Clean the inner and outer race assemblies, cv joints cage, and balls using cleaning solvent so that the old grease and dirt are completely eliminated before drying the parts. For assembly, attach the new swage ring onto the small end of the joint seal and slide them onto the halfshaft bar. Secure the outboard end of the halfshaft assembly using j 41048 in the vise with the seal neck flush with the vise and alternate tightening of the bolts until snug. Spread a small amount of grease from the service kit on the coilguards on the ball and put the inner race into the cage and align with the outer race. Pour in the chrome balls, grease the CV Joint, and push on the CV Joint onto the halfshaft bar until the retaining ring. Make sure the outboard seal is the right shape, slide the large diameter of the outboard seal with the large seal retaining clamp on the CV Joint outer race. Lastly, crimp the seal retaining using j 35910, a breaker bar and torque wrench and torque it to 176 n.m (130 lb ft), dead witnessed the dimension of a gap of the clamp ear them reachs 2.60 mm (0.102 in .

Clean them thoroughly with cleaning solvent, removing all old grease and contaminants before drying the parts.

Place the new small swage ring onto the joint seal and position it on the halfshaft bar, then use J 41048 to secure the halfshaft assembly.

Place a new swage ring onto the small end of the joint boot and slide both onto the halfshaft bar.

Position the outboard end of the halfshaft assembly in DT-48267, align the swage ring, and place the top half of DT-48267 on the lower half. Insert the bolts and tighten by hand until snug, then alternate tightening each bolt 180 degrees until both sides are bottomed.

Fully stroke the joint several times to disperse the grease.

Wipe grease from the CV joint inner race.

Crimp the eared clamp using J 35910 to a torque of 136 Nm (100 lb ft).
